Rock Lobby

Feeling adventurous, I braved the wilderness known as the Financial District in search of Lobby Bar & Kitchen. Tucked away near the burgeoning Rose Kennedy Greenway, it’s easy to miss unless you’re hunting for it. The bar is inspired by a hotel lobby, which is not apparent from the décor. While I didn’t expect bellhops balancing drinks on suitcases, they need more than a sleek and mod at-mosphere to justify the name. Though there’s no check-in desk, there is plenty to check out in the crowd of after-work drinkers and downtown explorers. The front-facing windows open to let in the springtime breeze, making the close quarters feel intimate, rather than cramped. The restroom, through a loading dock and down a shady flight of stairs, validates the reason girls travel in pairs, though it’s rumored to be temporary.

Despite Lobby’s lack of lodging, the experienced bartender was happy to play concierge, taking us on a tour of the audacious cocktail list as well as debuting some new summer libations. Beverages are orchestrated with uncommon ingredients: elderflower liqueur, fresh cucum-ber water, sage syrup, and even Fresca! By far the popular favorite is The Poolmaster, an unexpectedly refresh-ing blend of Reyka vodka with a fresh watermelon and Fresno chili infused puree. The night may not end with a mint on your pillow, but you’re guaranteed a sweet time at Lobby.
