Dropkicks open bar for sneak peek

NEWS. According to Mass-Live.com, the Dropkick Murphys opened their brand new Boston bar yesterday, just in time to serve Marathon pub-crawlers. The bar, located at 911 Boylston St., is called McGeevy’s Third Base Saloon, in homage to the band’s first taste of breakthrough exposure. Their cover of the Red Sox-rocker, “Tessie” catapulted the Dropkicks into the hearts of baseball fans shortly before “The Departed” gained them national fame. “Tessie” was the theme song of a group of Boston fans called the Royal Rooters in the early days of baseball. The leader of the Rooters was Michael T. “Nuf Ced” McGeevy, who owned and ran what was arguably the first sports bar in America, and was inspirational to Dropkick Ken Casey, who spearheaded the effort to open the bar.
