The Buzz: 5/2

Red Sox:
The Sox open a weekend series with the Rays Friday at 7 p.m. at Fenway when righty Clay Buchholz (1-2, 4.08 ERA) toes the slab against Tampa’s Edwin Jackson (2-2, 3.86 ERA). On Saturday night at 7, it’ll be a dandy of a pitching contest when Josh Beckett (2-2, 4.10 ERA) meets James Shields (3-1, 2.54 ERA) in a rematch of last weekend’s masterpiece. They’ll wrap things up Sunday at 1:35 p.m. when lefty Jon Lester (1-2, 4.31 ERA) meets Sox- killer Scott Kazmir, making his first start of the 2008 season (all games on NESN, AM 680 WRKO).

Celtics:
Game 6 of the Celtics-Hawks series tips off Friday night at 8 (CSN, Sportsradio 850 WEEI). According to our basketball guy Jeff Howe, the last time the Celtics played the Hawks in a Game 6 was also in Atlanta. The C’s won, 102-100, on May 20, 1988 in the Eastern Conference semifinals, which the Celtics won in seven games.

Revolution:

The Revs next meet the Chicago Fire at Gillette Stadium Saturday at 7:30 p.m. (TV38). The last time the two teams played at Gillette, it was an awesome Eastern Conference Championship matchup where the Revolution claimed a 1-0 victory thanks to a stunning bicycle kick from Taylor Twellman in the 38th minute.
