The buzz: 5/5/07

RED SOX:

Today, the Sox hit the road for an extended trip that’ll take them through Detroit, Minnesota and Baltimore over the next week or so. Boston will open things up tonight at 7 in Detroit’s Comerica Park (NESN, AM 680 WRKO) when it sends Daisuke Matsuzaka (4-0, 2.52 ERA) to the hill against righty Jeremy Bonderman (2-2, 3.86 ERA). Dice-K is coming off his finest start of the year — April 30 against the Jays, he went seven strong, allowing just two hits and two walks while fanning four but not figuring in the final decision.

CELTICS:

Now that the Celtics-Hawks series is completed, Atlanta sports fans can go back to ignoring the Braves and Boston can focus on the second round, which will feature LeBron James and the Cavs. Game 1 is tomorrow night at 8 at the TD Banknorth Garden (ESPN, Sportsradio 850 WEEI). We’re particularly pumped for the LeBron-Paul Pierce matchup, two guys who aren’t particularly enamored of each other.

REVOLUTION:

Only scarecrows hate fire more than the Revs. New England lost again to Chicago over the weekend, dropping a 3-0 decision. The Revolution has yet to score in two matches against the Fire this season, having suffered a 4-0 loss in Chicago on April 3. They’ll try and get back on track Sunday at 3 p.m. when they travel to meet CD Chivas (TV38).
