Plymouth supports film studio

BOSTON. Voters in Plymouth showed overwhelming support Saturday for a proposed movie studio, with roughly 88 percent of residents voting in its favor on a non-binding ballot question.

The studio has been proposed by Plymouth Rock Studios. The next stop for the plan, still in the preliminary stages and pegged at around $282 million, is a town meeting vote June 9.

In Saturday’s vote, 8,530 residents supported the idea, with 1,118 residents not supporting, according to published reports.

Along with the tax incentives established in 2006 for moviemakers to film in Massachusetts, Rep. Ronald Mariano, D-Quincy, also recently filed a bill that would establish a 20 percent tax credit for creating permanent film-industry infrastructure, including film studios.
