Green Line trolley car crashes on Comm. Ave.

BRIGHTON. The MBTA says the Green Line’s B branch service should be back to normal this morning after a trolley derailed early yesterday along Commonwealth Avenue, crashed into a utility pole, struck overhead electrical wires and caught fire.

The accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. near Cleveland Circle at the corner of Commonwealth and Chestnut Hill avenues.

About 30 passengers were forced out into the street, though no one was seriously injured, according to the T.

Riders were bused between Boston College and Washington Street all day yesterday as work and cleanup crews attended to the scene.

The two-train trolley suffered “significant damage,” according to T spokeswoman Lydia Rivera.

The accident happened where a series of tracks along Commonwealth and Chestnut Hill avenues converge, and the trolley was removed from the tracks yesterday after the morning rush-hour commute.
