Red Sox:
The Sox and Brewers open a three-game set Friday at 7 (NESN, AM 680 WRKO). In the series opener, the Sox will send Daisuke Matsuzaka (6-0, 2.45 ERA) to the hill against former Boston starter Jeff Suppan (2-3, 4.63 ERA). On Saturday at 3:55 p.m. (Fox, AM 680 WRKO), veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (3-2, 4.25 ERA) faces righty Dave Bush (1-4, 6.06 ERA). And in the series finale Sunday at 1:35 p.m. (TBS, AM 680 WRKO), it’ll be Josh Beckett (4-3, 4.21 ERA) against 24-year-old righthander Carlos Villanueva (2-4, 6.00 ERA).
Celtics:
According to our basketball guy Jeff Howe, the Celtics may have taken their first step to a road victory during their Game 5 win at home Wednesday night. It was their first win in the playoffs in which they overcame significant adversity, erasing a 14-point deficit when things weren’t going well on either end of the court and later fighting off a rabid Cavs’ comeback attempt. With that to build on, they might just have built the foundation for their initial road win Friday night at 8 at Cleveland (ESPN, Sportsradio 850 WEEI).
Revolution:
The Revs host San Jose Saturday night at 7:30 at Gillette Stadium (TV38, Sportsradio 850 WEEI). From 1996 through 2000, the Revs held the upper hand in this series, going 8-6-1, but since 2001, San Jose has turned the tables, as the Revs are 0-9-3 in their last 12 meetings with the Earthquakes, including 0-6-1 in their last seven meetings in New England.
