Nothing to fear …

PREVIEW. A creepy thrill doesn’t need a hard R rating — NBC’s suspenseful new anthology series “Fear Itself” brings spooky tales to network TV. Actors Eric Roberts and Jesse Plemons, both featured in the series, help dissect how the genre just got a little more thought provoking (icky brain probe imagery not even necessary).

Challenge yourself

Roberts: “The biggest challenge for me as an actor and a person was [that the story in ‘Spooked’] peaked in about ten minutes, and that peak maintains itself up to the very, very end. It doesn’t ever come down.”
Plemons: “The [one scene in the vampire-themed ‘Sacrifice’] was actually fairly long and had a lot of dialogue to be [said] hanging upside down.”

But respect the monsters

Roberts: “I get offered a lot of pointlessly crazy people to play, [but] this [character] was kind of a normal a-hole who becomes possessed, basically.”
Plemons: “I can’t imagine doing [an entire movie] where you’re screaming and being freaked out the whole time.”

‘Fear Itself’ premieres Thursday at 10 on NBC.
