“My Boys” — the story of tomboy sportswriter P.J., whose BFFs are almost exclusively guys — returns for a second season of unlucky in love antics. Though she’s got four loyal, single guys in her life, P.J.’s still trying to find “the one,” which makes this sitcom an unconventional, lovable buddy comedy. Inspired by P.J’s situation — did we mention she kinda, sorta dated two of those guy friends? — we look at some of the best best-friend sexual tension currently on television.
‘Battlestar Galactica’
Captain Kara “Starbuck” Thrace and Acting President of the Twelve Colonies Lee
“Apollo” Adama
The friendship: Starbuck’s deceased fiancé was Apollo’s brother; to say the surviving duo’s friendship is volatile is an understatement. These two define “love-hate relationship.”
The turning point: Probably when they drunkenly slept together ... and then beat the crap out of each other in a boxing ring to work out their issues.
Are they or aren’t they?: Starbuck impulsively married resistance fighter Samuel Anders; in turn, Apollo wed Officer “Dee” Dualla.
‘The Office’
Dunder Mifflin Scranton receptionist Pam Beesly and assistant manager Jim Halpert
The friendship: The duo’s constant conspiring against their dimwitted coworkers — and flirtation — make this a spot-on representation of cubicle life.
The turning point: From casino night kisses to Pam calling off her wedding because of her feelings for Jim, this duo had plenty of opportunities to hook up.
Are they or aren’t they?: The coworkers finally became Jam when Jim officially asked Pam to dinner after taking himself out of the running for a corporate position. Jim’s wedding proposal was foiled at the season’s end.
‘Pushing Daisies’
Pie Hole owner Ned and former dead girl Charlotte “Chuck” Charles
The friendship: Childhood sweethearts Ned and Chuck were separated when Ned accidentally killed Chuck’s father with his “gift” — bringing the deceased back to life with a simple touch, which comes at the cost of another life.
The turning point: The quirky pie maker revived Chuck after she was murdered; they fell in love once again.
Are they or aren’t they?: Eh, sort of. If Ned ever touches Chuck again, she’ll kick the can for good. But they sure are creative at making use of plastic wrap.
