Three Day patriots

Threshold go to Honduras to entertain the troops

The local rockers of Three Day Threshold are used to preparing for big tours, but never have they had to get vaccination shots for both anthrax and malaria beforehand.

It’s all in the name of patriotism according to guitarist and banjo player, Kier Byrnes. The co-ed, independent rock ’n’ roll country band departed for Honduras earlier this week to tour U.S. military outposts as part of the Pentagon’s Independence Day celebrations.

“We’re there to make it seem a little more like home,” he says.

According to Byrnes, this will be the first time in two years that American soldiers in Honduras have had live entertainment.

Despite being excited to ride in helicopters and perform concerts for music-hungry fans, Byrnes has his uncertainties. Recently, one of the bases they are scheduled to perform at had their status updated from “high” to “critical,” for reasons unexplained. It’s probably better that way.

“That pretty much scares the crap out of me,” says Byrnes. “But these are trained professionals at what they’re doing and we want to respect that. They’re guarding our country.”

Byrnes says the band plans to give the troops some good old American rock ’n’ roll and in return, they hope the troops will let them play with their military toys. “I did some target practice today, no joke. I’m hoping to make it out on the range to see how I can do with a real machine gun.” says Byrnes.
