Kevin Costner in IMAX! Kevin Costner in IMAX!

If you build it, they will come

PREVIEW. If you’ve ever experienced the stifling heat of a Boston summer, you’ve surely been there: crushed into a heavy metal chair, knees under your chin, surrounded by beer-wielding bro-dudes and women waving “Marry me, Jacoby!” signs.

This experience can only be replicated at Friendly Fenway itself, but this year an interesting alternative comes up to the plate: the Grand Slam Movie Series at the New England Aquarium’s Simons IMAX Theatre.

Every Thursday night now through Aug. 14, you can escape the heat at the Aquarium, grab a drink at their outdoor restaurant The Reef and watch the Sox on flat-screen TVs before retreating into the IMAX Theatre.

“Baseball is very popular, and we thought it’d be a nice way to compliment all the lively activity,” says VP of Marketing and Communications Jane Wolfson, who conceived the series. “What better way than with classic baseball films?”

Last week, moviegoers remembered, “There’s no crying in baseball!” with “A League of Their Own.” On deck for this week is “Major League.” And, of course, rounding out the series is “A Field of Dreams.”

Shown on the New England’s largest screen, these baseball flicks might just look better than Mike Lowell’s game winning grin (swoon).
