The WB reinvents itself online — only online

What’s old in TV land is new again — not to mention available to watch on the Web.

Yesterday marked the launch of TheWB.com, a revamped, online-only version of the old WB television network (which folded into The CW in 2006). Classics from the former Frog network (remember their ill-fated amphibious mascot?), including full episodes of “In Living Color” and “Smallville,” as well as cult hits “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and “Veronica Mars,” will be available for viewing on the site.

But instead of basking in its past, the refurbished WB is also moving forward with its tradition of producing youth-centric series. Airing only online, the shows are fresh programming for a generation whose computers are synonymous with their TV sets. For those of you still trying to figure out what a DVR is (or simply fall out of the network’s target 16- to 34-year-old demo), have your niece set you up on TheWB.com, then follow our primer on some of the site’s new — and old — offerings.

‘Whatever Hollywood’
The backstory: Three young, creative-type BFFs tackle Hollywood. The result — self-produced comedy shorts and original little pop ditties in a reality show format.
For fans of the classic WB show: “Gilmore Girls.” Like Rory, the “WH” ladies prove success and a little bit of wholesomeness really can coexist.

‘A Boy Wearing Makeup’
The backstory: Mathieu Francis is a 21-year-old guy who offers makeup tutorials (on himself) that would put Bobbi Brown to shame.
For fans of the classic WB show: “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Like Buffy and her  butt-kicking expertise, Mathieu is a natural at his trade.

‘Blue Water High’
The backstory: SATs take a backseat in this drama following six Australian teens attending an exclusive surfing academy. Apparently, those exist.
For fans of the classic WB show: “The O.C.” Money! Rivalry! Sex! Homework!  Only “BWH” has more excuses for the guys to take off their shirts and the gals to run around in bikinis.

‘Sorority Forever’
The backstory:
The mysteries surrounding Rush Week are just the start in this puzzle of a college drama. Jessica Rose of “lonelygirl15” stars.
For fans of the classic WB shows: “Roswell,” “Smallville,” “Angel,” “Bablyon 5,” Firefly.” Those sci-fi/fantasy show characters are really good at keeping secrets.
