With the return of the great Brenda Walsh to TV and the New Kids on the Block to arenas around the country, ’90s nostalgia is blooming harder than one of Blossom’s flowered hats. In an effort to do my part in this revival, I headed to Central Square’s Middlesex for YoYoYo ’90s, the killer monthly dance party. Did the DJ steal my collection of cassingles? Because I haven’t heard music this good since it was booming out of my tape deck. The interior is a modern design aficionado’s wet dream. The teak wood and unisex bathrooms coupled with low benches and tables on wheels allowing patrons to customize their space sets the club apart from other night-spots around town. As far as liquid refreshment goes, there’s both waitress service tableside as well as a well-staffed bar. The night I went, the bartenders kept up with the constant drink demand with good humor. Drinks are “wicked” strong to fuel you for the long night of cabbage patching ahead. I recommend the $8 Dark and Stormy, but I noticed most revelers clutched the $9, 24 oz. Red Stripe. Don’t leave without trying a Demi-Peche (a peach flavored lager); this is the only place in town I’ve had this nectarous concoction. Middlesex plays host to a virtual potpourri of dance nights. As far as the ’90s go, my feet were a little rusty, though I did manage to bust a move to the electric slide. In the words of Urkel, “Did I do that?”
