Sheffield has been fired from his position, according to a spokesman for Senate President Therese Murray. He had been a page at the State House since May 2007.
A state Senate page with an outstanding warrant for an alleged armed robbery was arrested Tuesday morning in a rental car with marijuana, a loaded high-capacity ammunition clip and a slew of electronic devices.
Rha-Shon Sheffield, who turns 19 tomorrow, was held yesterday on $50,000 bail for possession of ammunition and possession of marijuana. An additional $25,000 was given for an armed robbery charge stemming from a Jan. 25 incident in the South End.
State police stopped a rental car on Exeter Street around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday after it crossed three lanes of traffic to make a turn. A search found marijuana on all three occupants, and in the trunk was the gun clip, 20 rounds, cell phones, cameras, GPS units, and other items, the report said.
After Sheffield provided a State House ID, officers learned of the warrant from an earlier incident in which he and three associates allegedly placed a false ad on Craigslist to sell a computer for $700. When a Lowell man replied and drove to meet the sellers, they allegedly pulled a knife on him and took $10 and a cell phone.
The man escaped when he told his attackers that the rest of the money was in his car down the street and ran, according to the police report of the incident.
